Why Hibret
Why We Build Hibret
Hibret (ህብረት) means fellowship. We are building it because the Christian life is not lived alone, nor is it only lived on Sundays.
Jesus taught us to love God and to love one another, and the early church lived that love every day: they learned together, ate together, prayed together, and shared what they had. Hibret wants to help God's people live the same way today, as the Lord Jesus teaches us in the Gospels, and to help each church serve God's people even better.
«A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.»
John 13:34–35
What Hibret is for
Fellowship, every day
The church is a family, not only a meeting. Hibret keeps the church family close between Sundays: posts, encouragement, groups, and chat.
«And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.»
Acts 2:42Carrying each other's burdens
When someone needs a ride, a meal, or a hand on moving day, the church can see it and help. Love is shown in practical help.
«Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.»
Galatians 6:2Praying for one another
A prayer request reaches the whole church, or only the pastors, and members can tell the person "I am praying for you". Answered prayers become testimonies.
«Pray one for another … The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.»
James 5:16Rejoicing and weeping together
A birthday, a new baby, a healing, a loss: the church shares joy and comfort.
«Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.»
Romans 12:15Telling what God has done
Testimonies and answered prayers build the faith of others.
«Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.»
Psalm 66:16Living by the Word
Sermons, the Bible in your language, and notes on what God is teaching you, so the Word is read, remembered, and lived, not only heard.
«But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only.»
James 1:22Serving with the gifts God gave
Every member has a gift. Groups, classes, events, and volunteering help each person find a place to serve.
«As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.»
1 Peter 4:10Helping the church serve God's people better
Hibret makes news, events, the bulletin, member care, Sunday school check-in, and giving simpler, so pastors and staff have more time for prayer, the Word, and people. This is what the apostles did when they chose helpers for the daily work.
«It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables … But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.»
Acts 6:2–4Caring for the children
Safe check-ins, classes, and teachers who know each child, so children are welcomed and taught.
«Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me.»
Matthew 19:14Giving with a glad heart
Members can give to the church's work simply and openly.
«Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.»
2 Corinthians 9:7One body, many churches
Churches in Ethiopia and around the world can know, encourage, and pray for each other.
«And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.»
1 Corinthians 12:26A place that is pure and safe
What is shared on Hibret should build people up: members are approved by their church, and pictures are checked against Christian values.
«Whatsoever things are true … honest … just … pure … lovely … of good report … think on these things.»
Philippians 4:8
In one sentence
Hibret helps God's people love one another, carry one another's burdens, pray for one another, and live by His Word every day of the week, while helping every church serve its people well, just as the Lord Jesus taught us.
